Key Points

ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and ASEAN Forum on Coal (AFOC) release this study to promote and disseminate regional approaches to increase Clean Coal Technology (CCT) deployment in the ASEAN Member States (AMS). This study also aims to encourage the AMS to pursue coherent policy and plans towards CCT utilisation. It summarises information on:

1. ASEAN Energy Landscape.
2. Cleaner Coal Utilisation in ASEAN’s Electricity Sector.
3. Regional Approaches for Promoting CCT. 

The AMS has started their efforts to deploy CCT to its Coal-Fired Power Plant (CFPP), and there is a need to accelerate the development and deployment of CCT. The study has highlighted the regional approaches in promoting CCT in ASEAN. Moving forward, the methods need to be integrated with the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action and Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2021 – 2025 and national policies of respective AMS. AFOC and ACE will continue to play the critical role in coordinating, facilitating, and promoting CCT.
