Continuing Energy Transition Efforts towards COP26

Entering the third quarter of 2021, global attention is still focused on Covid-19 issues. The ASEAN region has been hit particularly hard by the pandemic and is still fighting hard to suppress its spread. There is no doubt that the pandemic has had huge impacts on the energy sector. Halfway through the end of 2021, ASEAN Member States (AMS) continued to promote COVID-19 vaccine equality as a means to reach herd immunity. It is hoped that when most of the population has been vaccinated, by the end of the year, the COVID-19 pandemic will be beaten, and the region’s economic recovery will hopefully accelerate. However, this hope encountered a huge barrier in the form of COVID-19 mutations —becoming more prevalent towards the end of Q2 2021—which threatened the re-emergence of pandemic waves. With the approach of the COP26 meeting scheduled for November 2021 in Glasgow, Scotland, it remains to be seen how the AMS will balance their pandemic recovery and climate change efforts.

Quoting Geneva Environment Network, ecosystem restoration means assisting in the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or destroyed, as well as conserving the ecosystems that are still intact.
