6th Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-sector Network’s Annual Meeting: Increasing ASEAN’s Capacity in Civilian Nuclear Energy

The sixth (6th) Annual Meeting of the Nuclear Energy Cooperation Sub-sector Network (NEC-SSN) was held on 12-13 April 2016 in Putrajaya, Malaysia, hosted by Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water of Malaysia (Kementerian Tenaga, Teknologi Hijau dan Air/KeTTHA). The meeting was attended by NEC-SSN’s Focal Points from Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and also representatives from ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). Representatives from High Commission of Canada in Malaysia, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), Integrated Support Center for Nuclear Nonproliferation and Nuclear Security (ISCN), Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were also present in the meeting. This year, one of the important purposes of the meeting is to enhance capacity building activities on civilian nuclear energy and to pursue regional nuclear safety cooperation with dialogue partners. The meeting resulted in useful outcomes and recommendations to support the Action Plans of Programme Area No. 7 (Civilian Nuclear Energy) under the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2016-2025.
